A customer recently contacted FixByWill because their Whirlpool washer would not complete the wash cycle. The machine would wash normally, but it seemed to get stuck before finishing — running endlessly without moving forward.

The Problem
After performing a full diagnostic, I found that the cold water inlet valve was not working properly.
Many homeowners don’t realize that during the rinse cycle, most Whirlpool washing machines use cold water only. Since the washer was unable to fill with cold water, it couldn’t complete the rinse phase — which caused the machine to keep running without finishing the cycle.
The Diagnosis Process
Here’s what I checked:
- Verified proper water supply from the wall
- Tested inlet valve solenoids
- Confirmed control board was sending voltage
- Inspected hoses and filters for blockage
The cold water solenoid was defective and not allowing water to enter the washer.
The Solution
I replaced the faulty cold water inlet valve assembly with a new OEM-quality part.

After installation:
✔ Proper water flow restored
✔ Rinse cycle completed normally
✔ Washer finished the full cycle without interruption
The machine is now working like new again.
Why This Happens
Water inlet valves can fail due to:
- Mineral buildup (common in Florida)
- Electrical coil failure
- Internal mechanical wear
- Sediment clogging the screen filter
If your washer runs endlessly, won’t rinse, or doesn’t fill properly, the inlet valve is one of the first components to inspect.
